|Project 2 - History|
|On April 5, 1984 a set of springs were replaced. Did not specify front or rear, but I would imagine the front. I had to replace the sagging rears at a later date. E&C Spring & Wheel in Escondido, CA performed the work. E&C is still in business in the same location.
On April 12, 1984 the Montego had its plugs replaced and some sort of vacuum related item replaced. Total cost was $11 from Kragen Auto Supply. Address unknown.
On May 30, 1984 all 16 lifters were replaced. Total cost was $60.64.
On May 16, 1984 the original engine had its number seven piston and rings replaced, as well as the oil pan gasket, water outlet, and head gaskets. John's Automotive Service in Escondido, CA performed work for $256. John's Automotive is still in business in the same location.
On May 24, 1984 a rebuilt long block was purchased at HDS Auto Parts & Machine in Escondido CA. HDS is still in business in the same location.
On June 3, 1984, John's Automotive Service in Escondido, CA replaced the engine. The odometer at the time of the replacement read 56,495 and the total cost for the replacement was $482. A used timing cover and flywheel were added to the bill. John's Automotive is still in business in the same location.
On June 13, 1984 San Marcos Muffler in San Marcos, CA replaced the two mufflers. The cost was $80. I have not been able to find any info on San Marcos Muffler, but I would assume they are now defunct.
Note sure of the date, but the heater core was replaced by Ronnie's Cooling System Specialists in Escondido, CA. They noted the "radiator top has a small leak. condenser is going bad". The condenser was probably replaced at a later date because it tested fine when I had it apart.
Around the same time, the speedometer was checked by North County Speedometer in Escondido, CA. The mileage was 55,863 and the speedometer was reading two to three miles and hour too fast.
On June 24, 1984 the Montego was sold to Dr. Jeannette Maino of Modesto CA. Sale price was a whopping $6636. Interesting note, the exterior color was listed as brown, but the interior color was correctly listed as white. Mileage was 57,026.
From here on out, I don't have as many detailed records, but it looks like the Montego stayed with Jeannette and Charles Maino from 1984 until 1998.
